Meet the Advance Care Planners

Certified Advance Care Planners assist with Advance Directives and other end of life planning concerns. This service is available only to patients of Sansum Clinic and is free of charge. For an appointment please call 805-681-6599.

Christine Cruse, LCSW
Christine Cruse is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker currently providing medical social work services to the Sansum patient community. She is also a Certified Advance Care Planner and enjoys assisting our patient community in meeting their various psychosocial needs. 

Christine received her Master of Social Work degree with a concentration in Older Adults and Families from California State University at Long Beach. Christine has more than 25 years of experience in the field of medical social work. She gained her work experience in a variety of settings including hospital, hospice, home health, care management, international adoption and with the chronically ill. Her goal is to help you maintain or improve your overall health and well-being.

Edith Gonzalez, MSW
Edith V Gonzalez is a Medical Social Worker for the Palliative Care Team at Sansum Clinic/Ridley Tree Cancer Center. She is currently working on becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). She holds a Master’s degree in Social Work from Cal State Long Beach, a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Cal State San Marcos and she is a certified mediator in conflict management. In 2020, she became a certified Advance Care Planning Facilitator. Edith speaks Spanish fluently.

Edith has over 15 years of experience working in her wonderful community of Santa Barbara. She has had the privilege to have held several important roles giving her the opportunity to grow her network to better link her patients to resources within the community. She loves learning and is constantly looking for ways to enrich her practice. Most of her career has been with the County of Santa Barbara, Department of Social Services where she worked as a Social Worker Practitioner for Child Welfare Services and as a Social Worker Sr. for Adult Services. During her time with Child Welfare Services she had the opportunity to assist with the implementation of the Family Drug Treatment Court (FDTC) program in the Santa Barbara Juvenile Court. She interned for the Department of Behavioral Wellness providing mental health services to youth, ages 16-24 years old, with chronic mental illness, and dual diagnosis. Edith’s professional interests are in hospice and palliative care.
