How are star ratings for providers determined?

Star ratings are based on responses to survey questions that focus on a patient's likelihood to recommend the provider's office to family and friends as well as the provider's care, including whether the provider listened carefully, spent enough time with you, explained things in an easy-to-understand way, and seemed to know important information about your medical history. Press Ganey averages and converts all survey responses into a single star rating, with five stars being the highest.

"I delayed having a colonoscopy until I was 64 . My local doctor removed 3 benign polyps but there was a fourth larger one that would require surgery. I decided to get a second opinion and made an appointment with Dr. Greaney. He looked at the notes from the colonoscopy and asked, "Why are you here?" I said, "Because I was told I need surgery." "No you don't." He walked me down to Dr. Egans office where I was scheduled for a second colonoscopy. Dr. Egan successfully removed the polyp the first guy saw plus a second one he missed.
