Rapid COVID-19 Testing for Travel or Personal Use

Sansum Clinic is now offering elective rapid COVID-19 testing so people can return safely to travel, sporting or music events, or any personal reason not related to suspicion of COVID infection.

  • An appointment is required and you can schedule an appointment up to 4 weeks in advance through MyChart, or by calling (805)563-6110.
  • Tests are performed 7 days a week at our Urgent Care location at 215 Pesetas Lane.
  • Test results take approximately 20 minutes and a printed copy of the result will be provided.
  • There is a fee of $100.00 due prior to time of the test that will not be billable to health insurance.

The Abbott ID NOW test is a rapid point-of-care nucleic acid amplification molecular test, which is similar to a PCR test. The test is performed with the direct nasal swab method.

It is important to understand that many venues, airlines, and destinations only accept COVID-19 test results from specific testing facilities.  It is your responsibility to verify that the test offered at Sansum Clinic (Abbott ID NOW COVID-19 test) meets the specifications of the organization requiring testing.

Interpreting Test Results

What does it mean to have a negative test result? A negative test result does not completely rule out being infected with COVID-19.  If you test negative for COVID-19, this means the virus was not detected at the time your specimen was collected. It is still possible that you were very early in your infection at the time of your test and that you could test positive later.

Also, you could be exposed later and still develop the illness. For all these reasons, it is important to follow CDC guidance, especially when traveling, including but not limited to frequent hand washing, social distancing, wearing a face covering, covering coughs and sneezes, monitoring symptoms, and disinfecting frequently touched surfaces - even after a negative test result.
