Vaccine Distribution Plan

Sansum Clinic’s limited vaccine supply is managed by the state, and our distribution plan is under the specific direction of the Santa Barbara County Public Health Department. We ask for your patience as we work to vaccinate everyone who is eligible as soon as possible.

Date updated: 8-24-2021

Who is eligible:

  • People age 12 years and older
  • Pfizer is the only vaccine currently approved for people age 12-17. See below for how to schedule for this age group.

Sansum Clinic offers vaccines by appointments only. Walk-up appointments are not available.

If you have a future vaccine appointment scheduled with Sansum Clinic and you receive the vaccine somewhere else, please cancel your appointment at Sansum Clinic so we can offer that time slot to another eligible patient.

BOOSTERS FOR IMMUNOCOMPROMISED PATIENTS:
People whose immune systems are compromised moderately to severely should receive an additional dose of an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine after the initial 2 doses because they are more at risk of serious and prolonged illness if infected and an additional dose of an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine after the initial 2 doses, at least 28 days after a second dose, has demonstrated greater protection against COVID-19.  The CDC does not recommend additional doses or booster shots for any other population at this time.
How to Receive a 3rd Booster:
Patients with scheduled office visits in the following departments can get a booster during their appointment:

  • Ridley-Tree Cancer Center (medical oncology and radiation oncology)
  • Rheumatology
  • Nephrology

Patients with NO scheduled office visit should contact their provider directly or send them a message via MyChart to schedule the third booster.

People Eligible for 3rd Booster:

  • Been receiving active cancer treatment for tumors or cancers of the blood
  • Received an organ transplant and are taking medicine to suppress the immune system
  • Received a stem cell transplant within the last 2 years or are taking medicine to suppress the immune system
  • Moderate or severe primary immunodeficiency (such as DiGeorge syndrome, Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome)
  • Advanced or untreated HIV infection
  • Active treatment with high-dose corticosteroids ( i.e., >20 mg prednisone or equivalent per day), alkylating agents, antimetabolites, transplant related immunosuppressive drugs, cancer chemotherapeutic agents classified as severely immunosuppressive, tumor necrosis (TNF) blockers, and other biologic agents that are immunosuppressive or immunomodulatory.

BOOSTERS FOR ALL PATIENTS AGE 12+:  CDC is prepared to offer booster shots for all Americans beginning the week of September 20 and starting 8 months after an individual’s second dose of an mRNA (Moderna or Pfizer) vaccine.  The need for a Johnson & Johnson  booster will be determined soon.

UNVACCINATED PATIENTS:  All patients age 12 and over are encouraged to get vaccinated at pediatrics (age 12-17; Pfizer only) or for 18 and over, schedule an appointment on MyChart or by calling (805) 681-7805.

How to schedule an appointment:

Patients age 12 – 17 years old: Patients (or their parent/guardian) can call the Pediatrics Department at (805) 563-6211 to schedule an appointment. Patients will need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian and a consent form is required.

  • Download the consent form here.
  • We will try to accommodate any other household members seeking a vaccine at the same appointment, as availability allows.

Patients age 18 years and older: Patients can schedule an appointment on MyChart or by calling (805) 681-7805.

  • Second dose appointments will be scheduled during your first dose appointment.
  • Appointments are available each week at Sansum Clinic's 215 Pesetas Lane Pharmacy and must be scheduled in advance.
