COVID-19 TESTING AND VACCINE INFORMATION

COVID-19 Testing

If you have COVID-19 symptoms or have been exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, follow the steps below:

  1. If you are a Sansum Clinic patient with a primary care provider, message your primary care provider through MyChart and they will assist with scheduling a test for you. If you need to sign up for MyChart, click here or call (805) 898-3333.
  2. If you do not have a primary care provider or are not a Sansum Clinic patient, go to Urgent Care located at 215 Pesetas Lane where you will be seen on a first come, first serve basis. Walk-ins are accepted daily from 8:00 am – 7:00 pm.

If you are experiencing emergency warning signs such as difficulty breathing, pressure or pain in chest, bluish lips or face, confusion or hard to wake, or other serious symptoms, call 911 immediately

 

We are now offering elective rapid COVID-19 testing so people can return safely to travel, sporting or music events, or any personal reason not related to suspicion of COVID infection.  Click here for more information.

 

Who can be tested for COVID-19 at Sansum Clinic?

We are testing patients who have COVID-19 symptoms or have had close contact with someone who has tested positive. If you have any of the following symptoms, please contact your provider via MyChart to determine if you should be tested:

  • A fever (a temperature of 100.0 or above) or flu-like symptoms
  • Sore throat, new cough or shortness of breath
  • New muscle aches or fatigue
  • New diarrhea or gastrointestinal symptoms
  • Chills
  • Headache
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Close contact with anyone who had a fever, flu-like symptoms, cough, possibly has COVID-19, or has confirmation of having COVID-19 within the last 14 days

If you think you have been exposed to COVID-19 and develop any of these symptoms, it's important to self-isolate, rest and contact your healthcare provider via MyChart to determine your next steps.

If you are in need of care, the following options are available:

  • In-person appointment: If you need to schedule an in-person appointment, please contact your health care provider via MyChart and they will help determine the best appointment type for you at this time. For patients who do come in for an appointment, it is important to know that we have extraordinary precautions(link to How We AreKeeping You Safe) in place to protect the health and safety of our patients and our staff.
  • Telehealth: Telehealth visits by video and phone are available so patients can see a doctor from the safety of their own homes. We can help you determine if a Telehealth visit is medically appropriate for you. Please call (805) 681-7500 or visit telehealth.sansumclinic.org.
  • Urgent Care: OurUrgent Care Department at 215 Pesetas Lane is open daily from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm for medical conditions that are unplanned and that need to be treated.

 

I have symptoms that are consistent with those of COVID-19.  What should I do?

Whether or not you have been tested for COVID-19, if you are feeling sick, it's important to self-isolate, rest, and monitor your symptoms. To determine if you should be tested, please contact your provider via MyChart. MyChart users can access the COVID-19 Symptom Checker to do a self-assessment of symptoms.

MyChart users can access the COVID-19 Symptom Checker, which is a free online tool that will ask you a series of questions and provide you with recommended next steps.

I was exposed to someone who tested positive for COVID-19, but I feel fine. What should I do?

If you have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, even if you feel well now, if is possible that you are also infected. It can take 2-14 days to show symptoms, so it may take up to 14 days to know if you are infected or not. Please read and follow this Home Quarantine Guidance for Close Contacts to COVID-19.

 

Does Sansum Clinic offer rapid testing for COVID-19?

At this time, rapid testing is available for use in patients prior to emergency surgery, or as elective rapid testing so people can return safely to travel, sporting or music events, or any personal reason not related to suspicion of COVID infection. Click here for more information.

 

I would like to know if I have had COVID-19 in the past and didn't know it. Can I get a test?

COVID-19 tests identify if you currently have the virus, they do not test for past infections. Due to the shortage of testing materials, we are only testing patients if they have COVID-19 symptoms or those who have had close contact with someone who has tested positive.

 

I tested positive for COVID-19, but I feel fine. What should I do?

If you tested positive for COVID-19, you must isolate yourself and inform your close contacts. Please read and follow the Home Isolation and Quarantine Instructions for People with COVID-19 Infection.
