Meet the Dietitians at Sansum Clinic

A Registered Dietitian (RD) is trained in the science of nutrition and will talk with you about your health, your lifestyle and the type of foods you enjoy. You will work together to make goals and a plan of action that meets your needs. Diets can be tailored to your diagnosis: heart disease, diabetes, kidney disease, obesity, or food allergies. The dietitian’s goal is to help you improve overall health and quality of life.

Gerri French is a Registered Dietitian and Certified Diabetes Educator as well as nutrition instructor for the Culinary Arts Program at Santa Barbara City College and Adult Education cooking instructor. With more than 35 years experience she specializes in translating the latest scientific information into practical information. Gerri has her MS degree in Physical Education and Wellness. She enjoys helping her patients balance their lifestyle with wholesome seasonal food, fitness and stress management. Her passion is teaching people about culinary medicine and cooking for longevity.

Emily Luxford is a Registered Dietitian with a master’s degree in nutritional science. She has experience as a credentialed elementary school teacher and has served on the faculty at California State University, Long Beach. Beyond the classroom, she has developed and published research regarding dietary modification. Emily’s focus is individualized medical nutrition therapy. Her practice includes evidence based nutrition intervention for cardiovascular disease, diabetes, renal disease, gastrointestinal disorders, bariatric surgery nutrition support and disease prevention. As a dietetic educator, Emily provides clear and concise nutrition information tailored to meet the needs of each patient.

Kari Ikemoto, RD, CDE

(Santa Barbara, Lompoc)

Kari Ikemoto is a Registered Dietitian with over five years of experience in nutrition and health education. She graduated from Cal Poly Pomona and completed her clinical training at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in New Hampshire. Prior to Sansum Clinic, Kari worked at DaVita HealthCare Partners Medical Group in Los Angeles as a dietitian specializing in diabetes, weight management, pediatrics, renal disease, sports nutrition, and tube feedings. She continues to work at UCLA in the Radiation Oncology department assisting cancer patients optimize their nutrition status during treatment. Her goal with patients is to simplify often complicated nutrition advice, helping patients understand that a healthy and nourishing life are within their reach.

Kristin Price is a Registered Dietitian in the Oncology Nutrition Program, which is part of the Oncology Supportive Care Program at the Cancer Center of Santa Barbara. She has over 14 years of experience working with diverse populations in hospital, rehabilitation, and out-patient settings.  With degrees in both psychology and nutrition, Kristin individualizes her approach to patients, helping them navigate the latest scientific research and trends in nutrition.  Her experience allows her to assist individuals meet their personal health goals and improve nutrition-related health conditions

Sarah Washburn is the Coordinator for the Oncology Nutrition Program, which is part of the Oncology Supportive Care Program at the Cancer Center of Santa Barbara.  She is a Registered Dietitian and a Board Certified Specialist in Oncology Nutrition.  Sarah was affiliated with a large cancer center in the Pacific Northwest for over 10 years and coauthored the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Standards of Practice Guidelines for Oncology Dietitians in 2010.  Through her leadership, the Oncology Nutrition Program supports patients throughout the care continuum, from prevention through treatment and on to survivorship, using an evidenced-based whole foods approach.
