Meet Our Registered Dietitians

Registered Dietitians (RDs) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDNs) are food and nutrition experts. Dietitians are trained in the science of nutrition and the application of such concepts for healthy living. The dietitian’s goal is to help you reduce your risk of disease or disease recurrence and improve overall health and quality of life.

What does an RD do?

At Sansum Clinic, a dietitian will talk with you about your health, your lifestyle and the type of foods you enjoy. You will work together to make goals and a plan of action that meets your needs. Diets can be tailored to your diagnosis: heart disease, diabetes, kidney disease, obesity, or food allergies.

At the Cancer Center of Santa Barbara, oncology dietitians will focus on nutrition as it relates to your risk of cancer or your cancer diagnosis. Specifically, these professionals will help manage treatment side effects, identify and treat malnutrition, assess supplement use, and decrease risk of recurrence.

How can an RD help?

Based on your individual needs, an RD can help you:

  • Make food choices for optimal health
  • Assess safety and effectiveness of supplements (vitamins, minerals and herbal varieties)
  • Achieve your healthy body weight
  • Increase your energy level
  • Learn tips for reading labels and dining out
  • Plan easy and affordable meals
  • Separate nutrition facts and myths
