In 2012 we established The Lovelace Fund for Medical Excellence. The fund was established by our Trustees as a tribute to the late Jon Lovelace and the Lovelace Family for their visionary support of Sansum Clinic.
These funds are to be used for programs and projects that will assist in the recruitment and retention of physicians to Sansum Clinic. Programs and projects include the Facility Improvement Program and the Physician Housing Program and other endeavors which are deemed to attract and retain physicians and ensure medical excellence for our patients.
Facility Improvement Program
In early 2012 we embarked on the silent phase of a campaign to raise $3 million for the Phase I upgrade of our Pesetas clinic. Phase I includes the redesign and remodel of the front entrance façade, the main lobby and patient registration area, and the creation of a separate entrance for the patient laboratory on the first floor. This phase will provide enhanced privacy for patients checking in for appointments. Flooring, wall treatments, furnishings and lighting will be replaced throughout the front half of the first floor. This phase will also include improvements in the clinical waiting areas.
This upgrade is still one of our highest priorities. Modernizing our facilities through the Facility Improvement Program will not only enhance our patients’ experience but also support our ongoing efforts to attract the highest caliber physicians from around the US.
Physician Housing Program
The other major fundraising effort is to add at least $1.5 million to the endowment that helps bring doctors to the community through shared appreciation loans. The Physician Housing Program has been a very valuable tool in physician recruitment. We had previously raised $3.5 million for this portion of the endowment. Since 2008 the fund has provided loans to 15 new physicians. Those physicians who have utilized the endowment funds saw more than 17,000 patients (30,000 visits) in one year. So, there has been a large benefit to the community through the Trustee-directed use of those funds. We want to add to that so that we can continue to recruit outstanding medical experts.
