At the Sansum Clinic Cardiac Rehabilitation Center, each patient's specific regimen is created upon entering the rehabilitation program.
Patients work out to build aerobic capacity and strength with beautiful mountain and ocean views. On site there are structured classes where patients receive handouts and information, informational sessions on exercise programs, and they set lifestyle goals.
Patients are organized into group classes, which also function as support and social groups. People learn from their own experiences but also by being exposed to other patients. Patients receive individual attention from our nurses even while working out in a group setting.
Patient monitoring is accomplished through individual attention by trained cardiac rehabilitation nurses and physicians before, during and after each workout. Patients are electronically monitored through special cardiac monitors worn throughout the workout. Patients are counseled during their workouts about their goals for eating, exercising, and controlling risk factors like cholesterol. The cardiac rehab nurses also educate people about medications.
Most patients' goals are focused on decreasing the likelihood of a disease progressing, promoting regression; stopping/preventing future heart attacks or repeat occurrences.
Studies show that people who come for a full 12 weeks have the best outcome because they've changed their habits and made healthier lifestyle choices such as exercise and diet.
There are regular, rotating educational classes on six different topics, including "Heart Smart Risk Reduction for Life" and "Risk Factors and Coronary Disease Overview".
