Dr. Zisman is not only my doctor, he's part of my support system
In 2005 Susana LeVine underwent a routine surgery to treat a hernia. The surgery was successful, but the scary part came after the procedure when Susana wasn’t waking up from her anaesthesia. Doctors initially thought that she had suffered a stroke or a heart attack, but after numerous tests and three biopsies, it was determined that Susana had a pulmonary condition called Nonspecific Interstitial Pneumonitus (NSIP).
A resident of Carlsbad, Susana was initially referred to several specialists at hospitals near San Diego, but wasn’t satisfied with their course of treatment that was limited to Susana taking medication to alleviate some of the symptoms of her condition. After asking for additional references, Susana was finally referred to Dr. David A. Zisman, a pulmonologist who, at the time, served as the Director of Interstitial Lung Disease Program at UCLA. Upon meeting Dr. Zisman for the first time, Susana says “I never looked back – finding Dr. Zisman was like finding my own guardian angel and I will follow him anywhere!”
Susana did follow Dr. Zisman to Sansum Clinic and makes the commute from Carlsbad to Santa Barbara every four months to meet with Dr. Zisman and his team. “Dr. Zisman is more than just a doctor, it’s a relationship! He and his wonderful team at Sansum are now part of my support system, along with my family and friends.” Susana has already beaten the odds she was given upon her initial diagnosis of NSIP and is very confident about her future outlook under the continued care of Dr. Zisman.
