Thanks to Sansum Clinic, I'm off all diabetes medication
In April of 2010, the results of a glucose test changed my life. I was notified by Dr. Gloria Hadsall to come in for a consultation. The results were shocking: I was diagnosed with Type II diabetes. I was terrified. She immediately wrote out the necessary prescriptions and made an appointment for me to see Dr. Mark Wilson, a Sansum Clinic Endocrinologist, and she introduced me to Diana Bullock, a Diabetes Educator for Sansum Clinic.
Diana knew right away that I was overwhelmed by the news — she took me under her wing and described the routine I would need to follow to manage my disease. My entire lifestyle had to change. She knew I was having difficulty processing all this information, so she carefully typed out detailed instructions for me. She also gave me her email address and phone number for any questions. I don’t know what I would have done without her patience and compassion.
Dr. Wilson also took the time to answer my concerns. He said that if I followed his recommendations, it would be possible to lower my insulin intake. And lo and behold, within a few months I was just taking insulin in the evening before bedtime. Now, through diet, exercise and support of the best husband in the world (turned into the “diabetic chef”) I have remained within my goal and I am off all medication.
